Exploring the EE in Language A: a Masterclass (current Guide)

Masterclass Format

This VIRTUAL Masterclass will be delivered by IBICUS via ZOOM by a fully-trained leader. The timings are 09:00-13:30 UK time with a set-up / introductory meeting starting at 08:30 UK time.  Please note that IBICUS Masterclasses are not official IB PD workshops are any certificates issues do not count towards school authorisation and evaluation.

About the Masterclass

This is a 4-hour Masterclass focussing on developing your knowledge and understanding of the EE and your ability to support students in the EE in your particular subject area.  Note that this features the EE in the 2016 Guide and does not take into account any changes to be implemented from September 2025.  Although you may receive an IBICUS Certificate of Attendance, IBICUS Masterclasses are not IBO-authorised or certified workshops and do not count towards authorisation or evaluation.

What teachers/schools will gain from this Masterclass - advice on:

  • guiding your EE students in their research - helping students to formulate the research question; who identifies materials/sources, examples of appropriate research sources, how to support students in the research process, how to design a suitable methodology; reflection sessions - helping them to understand what is required, how to prepare
  • supporting your EE students as they write up their EE
  • helping your EE students reflect on their research and progress in the RPPF

What you will take back to your school:

  • a deeper understanding of the requirements of an extended essay in your subject
