Workshop Format

This FACE-TO-FACE workshop will take place at Dubai International Academy (DIA) Al Barsha, Dubai, UAE in association with Innoventures Education Training Centre.

DIA Al Barsha is close to the the Mall of the Emirates and many hotels in the Al Barsha area. Includes 15 hours of expert tuition over 2.5 days, with full resources and great food and refreshments

Timings: 08:30-16:30 on Days 1 and 2 and 08:30-12:15 on Day 3.

About the workshop

FEATURING THE NEW CURRICULUM - first teaching August 2023 / assessment May 2025

This workshop is recommended for experienced Diploma Programme (DP) physics teachers and IB physics teachers who have completed a category 1 physics workshop.

The Experimental Programme is a vital element of the DP physics course. This workshop supports participants in the development of a broad and structured Experimental Programme that provides opportunities for students to develop the necessary skills for success in the full range of possible types of Scientific Investigation. Participants will examine various student samples of the Scientific Investigation to develop a clear understanding of the application of the internal assessment criteria. Resources for all aspects of the Experimental Programme, including resources using technology will be explored. The workshop is suitable for experienced teachers who wish to improve their Experimental Programme and further integrate technology into their Experimental Programme.

Key contents and learning expectations:

  • To review in detail the IB expectations concerning the practical programme and explore the relevance of a solid design of the practical programme and principles that should support it.
  • To share teaching strategies that will support the development of skills needed for successfully completing a good quality individual investigation.
  • To understand the moderation process and to compare standards of marking and moderation amongst delegates.
  • To understand and how Approaches to Teaching and Learning (ATL) and ICT can support the IA.
  • To understand the diverse range of possible individual investigation types.
  • To debate when and how to schedule the IA.
  • To exchange best practice and useful resources.
